Diving Deep with Kairi Tusinachi (海狸ツーシンアチ)

Hey there, Stupendous Man/Super City enthusiasts!

In my last blog post, we ventured into the creation and evolution of Kenji Sojuto, a character inspired by my Street Fighter EX3 nostalgia. Today, let’s shed some light on another character: Kairi Tusinachi.

Firstly, yes, for the gaming aficionados out there, Kairi’s inception indeed draws its roots from the iconic Kairi of Street Fighter EX. But, while inspiration is the seed, evolution is key. The Kairi Tusinachi of our beloved Stupendous Man series is distinct in more ways than one.

A Different Face 

One of the most noticeable differences is Kairi's facial structure. Unlike the somewhat rounded visage of Street Fighter's Kairi, Tusinachi’s face in the comic is much more angular. And while the scars that mark the former are iconic, our Kairi sports a scar-free complexion. Another significant departure is the vibrant green hue of his eyes, setting him apart and adding an extra layer of depth to his character.

The Mystery of ‘Tusinachi’ 

Now, some of you linguistic experts might have already pointed out: Tusinachi doesn't sound traditionally Japanese. You're right! The twist here is that Kairi’s name is technically read as Tusinachi Kairi. Flipping convention on its head, Kairi's father adopted his wife's surname. The significance behind the name Tusinachi is shrouded in mystery, and I assure you, its origin plays a pivotal role in the unfolding narrative. However, patience is key, as this enigma won’t be unraveled until well after the Super City arc concludes.

Kairi's Persona 

Kairi’s stoic and serious demeanor isn’t just for show. Driven by an unwavering ambition, he aspires to nothing less than being the ultimate fighter. However, beneath this veneer of steely determination lie wounds yet unhealed. Last year's Grand International Martial Arts Tournament (GIMAT) was not just a battleground of skills for Kairi but also marked the tragic demise of his parents. Those of you who've been meticulously following the storyline and its interspersed flashbacks might already be piecing together the puzzle of their untimely deaths. Rest assured, these shadows from his past will be brought to light in the forthcoming issue of Stupendous Man (#5: Kairi Tusinachi).
